Section 3 Resources

Textbook
Materials for Technical Mathematics by Megan Ossiander-Gobeille and Mark Fitch.
Class Information
All due dates, assignments, and other class materials will be posted on Blackboard.
Technology
A basic scientific calculator is required, because many of the calculations are slow and error prone by hand. You will learn to use technology to help you answer questions (the number is only part of the answer).
Tools that can do the work for you (e.g., PhotoMath, generative AI) are not permitted for completing any assignment in this class. This course prioritizes developing your mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills which will not grow if technology bypasses your thinking.
For studying, AI might be useful when you want an explanation and cannot contact the instructor or a tutor. However, as of the beginning of the semester, most of the large language models area still limited in explaining math reliably. You will need to be very careful about your prompts and check the results with your own calculations.
