Abstract

We are developing a flume that will be capable of testing the erodibility and character (size) of eroded sediment particles. Existing flumes measure the rate of sediment erosion as a function of the hydrodynamic conditions, but not the character of the eroding sediments. We are modifying an existing flume to add a particle size measurement module. This information will help us develop predictive sediment suspension and transport models as sediment size is an important factor determining how long particles stay suspended once eroded.
