Abstract

The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights adopted and proclaimed in 1948 outlines the basic human rights guaranteed to all individuals. In particular, Article Four of the document states that ‘no one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.' Despite this fact, human trafficking has remained a prominent concern throughout the nations and the ages. According to findings by the U.S. State Department, there are between 600,000-800,000 documented cases yearly of human trafficking, but it is estimated that 4-27 million actual incidences occur. These statistical findings, however, belie the economic, social, political, and humane disruptions that occur due to engagements in the human trafficking market."
