Summer 2008 Plans

I took an unintentional hiatus from this project even though it is allocate another 180 hours. I’m re-reading all the docs and code to draw up some plans to meet Dr. Spalinger’s latest requirements. There is a document describing where things stand and what else should be done (2008 Mhs Design Change notes.docx). Most of it has to do with the data entry UI. There’s a little to do for the model and a little to do for some of the 3D renders. You can see a high level overview of how the components are arrange in the class diagrams (Class Diagrams.docx)

Summer ‘07 for Complex Systems Group

I’m working for the Complex Systems Group this summer to further develop what started as the MHS software. The goals this summer are

  • Convert to Visual Studio 2005
  • Polish the wizarding interface so it is rock solid in the field
  • Integrate a bluetooth laser range finder
  • Modify the sampling methodology to meet new requirements from Dr. Spalinger
  • Make a sister application using the same framework that allows the complete mapping of a plant instead of the sparse mapping

This is one of the most interesting programming projects I’ve ever worked on. So, I am very excited to be continuing the work.

CS498 Paper

As the summer semester comes to a close, I’m putting the finishing touches on my summer prototype work on MHS. It’s been a very rewarding experiencing following the project to this level of maturity. Though feature rich, earlier versions were definitely more stable and rightly so because they were much simpler. Like it says in the final document, I’ll still help with the project through the fall when I graduate.
