Deborah Narang
Deborah Narang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at UAA who joined the faculty in 1995. She received her Master's Degree frm Ohio State University in 1985 and her Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire in 1994. She teaches courses in basic algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear and abstract algebra, proofs, geometry, and math history. With an interest in teacher preparation, she was a member of the statewide Math Endorsement Committee, has served as a facilitator for the Alaska Partnership for Teacher Enhancement and a mentor to interns in the teacher certification program at UAA. She has volunteered as a tutor trainer at the Anchorage Literacy Project and served as the President of the Faculty Senate in 2002- 2003. She will be listed in next year's edition of Who's Who of American Women and is a member of the NCTM, the Mathematical Association of America, the Association for Women in Mathematics, and the Mathematicians and Education Reform Forum.


Steve Atwater
Steve Atwater is the superintendent of the Lake and Peninsula School District. Steve earned his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and then returned to school at the University of Alaska Fairbanks to meet the requirements for a teaching certificate. Steve later earned his masters degree from UAF and his administrative certificates from UAA. Steve taught school in the Lower Yukon School District for two years and has been with the LPSD as a teacher, curriculum coordinator and now superintendent for the past 12 years. Steve first came to Alaska in 1981 while in college to work as a commercial fisherman. He is married with one child, a nine-year-old son.


Cora Neal
Cora Neal teaches is an assistant professor in mathematics and applied statistics at UAA. She received her bachelors and masters degrees in statistics from Brigham Young University and her PhD in mathematics from Utah State University. Cora has taught a wide variety of math and statistics courses including mathematics for liberal arts majors, statistics for liberal arts majors, probability, and history of mathematics. Last year, she served as a mentor for a gifted and talented high school student exploring a career in research mathematics. Cora is the mother of Canyon, a first grader in the Spanish Immersion Program at Government Hill Elementary, and Cedar, a precocious 3 year old.
